What to expect
This private studio is a small space within a shared unit just off of Main Street in Antigonish, N.S. The space is cozy, with room for you to bring a friend for support. While open foods + drinks are not permitted in the tattoo room, it is recommended that you bring a water bottle that can fully seal.
There is parking out front, a public washroom and the space is wheelchair accessible.
Before your appointment
Taking care of your skin before your tattoo can make a huge difference. Here are some tips that will make your appointment go smoothly:
Protect your skin- I cannot tattoo over skin that is affected by a skin condition (eczema or psoriasis), viral infection, affected by a mole, or has any open/unhealed wounds. I can tattoo over most scars that have fully healed, though.
Eat- Please make sure to have some food before your appointment. A good breakfast or lunch can make a huge difference. An empty stomach can make for a more difficult tattoo process. A full stomach can help you from feeling faint, and helps your body stay energized to help with the pain.
Hydrate- Healthy, hydrated skin makes a smoother tattoo session as well. Drink lots of water in the days leading up to your tattoo, and feel free to bring a water bottle with you as well.
Moisturize- Again, hydrated skin makes for a smoother session. Keep skin moisturized in the days leading up to your tattoo.
Get a good nights rest.
Wear comfortable, clean clothing that allows access to the area you’re getting tattooed.
Do not drink alcohol for at least 24 hours before getting tattooed.
Aftercare
The First Day:
- Keep the bandage on for 24 hours. Keep the bandage out of direct sunlight. Avoid any heavy physical activity as sweat getting trapped under the bandage can cause infection.
- To remove the bandage, it works best to hold under running lukewarm water. I recommend doing this part in the shower! Wash your hands first, then gently pull with the bandage, not against (think like removing a Command Strip) Dispose of the used bandage.
- Gently clean your tattoo with fragrance free, antibacterial soap. Liquid soap is highly recommended. Dry your tattoo with clean paper towel. Avoid using hand/bath towels, as fibres could get stuck to your tattoo.
- Allow your tattoo to air dry for at least an hour. Afterwards, apply a very thin layer of Aveeno Daily Moisturizer.
The Following Days:
The average healing time for tattoos is about 10-14 days. Different factors can affect healing times, feel free to ask me about it if you have any concerns!
Apply a very thin layer of Aveeno Daily Moisturizer 1-2 times a day.
Do not wear any irritating clothing over your new tattoo.
Your tattoo will begin to scab, this is normal! The moisturizer will help give the scabs a little bit of flexibility so the ink can settle. The scabs will flake off naturally. Picking will result in a poorly healed tattoo.
When showering, you are still able to use your normal body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. However, be careful not to directly wash your tattoos with the scented products. Allow soaps to rinse off. Avoid showering for long periods as this will soak your tattoo (No hour-showers!)
Do not soak your tattoo. Soaking can be caused by bathing/swimming, long showers, sweating heavily, or over moisturizing.
